Designed with Murali Guthikonda, M.D. F.A.C.S.
The new Pterional Implant is designed for the neurosurgeon to address
temporalis muscle atrophy created by the pterional approach to the
brain. While the pterional craniotomy is one of the most versatile
approaches in neurosurgery, it can lead to temporal hollowing. The
implant is placed deep to the temporalis during closure to prevent
this defect. The new Pterional Impalnt is available in left and
right versions, and while similar to the FLEXBLOCK TF, is much smaller
in design to provide appropriate augmentation.
